March 2008

This March we went to Washington, D.C. Daniela had a conference and I tagged along. It was also Cherry Blossom time. Besides some dreary weather we had a good visit. We visited the National Zoo, Museum of Natural History and the Conservatory, which saw a recent renovation. At the conservatory I saw a Mimosa plant. Mimosa has an interesting defense mechanism. If it is disturbed the plant curls up as if it is dead. This stuff grows wild in Hawaii. Click to watch the video.

Hillary Clinton visited her hometown of Scranton. People lined up at Scranton High School hoping to catch a glimpse of the former first lady. Daniela and I had never been to a political rally before and we wanted to experience one. Afterwards I decided it was my first and last political rally. There's too many crazy people treating presidential candidates like rock stars. Lots of secret service buzzing around that night. Not only did we catch a glimpse, but Daniela got her autograph.

Here’s a recent picture of Eddie in his favorite place…the bathtub. I don’t know if this cat is ever going to stop growing.

I’m getting ready for the growing season this year. Here are some pics from last year’s garden. Overnight temperatures are already above freezing so I may get an early jump on things.
